With people flocking to the Palmetto State all the time, it’s not much of a big surprise that South Carolina was the third-fastest growing state in 2022. With a moderate climate, job opportunities and that amazing coastline, how can we possibly be surprised?
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, South Carolina’s population grew a whopping 1.7% from 2021 to 2022, behind only Florida and Idaho, according to the data.
On July 1, South Carolina’s population was estimated at 5,282,634, which is 89,368 more residents in the state than in 2021. We all knew South Carolina was growing, but that’s a lot of people.
With lot of folks fleeing the north for warmer climates, New York, Illinois, Louisiana, West Virginia were the states that saw the biggest percentage decline in 2022. Hawaii was also on the list and saw a decline as well.
The Southern U.S. was the region that saw the most growth, followed by the Western U.S., which was the only other region that saw growth in 2022.
